King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters

OK, so it should be obviously, but I'm suggesting Donkey Kong type game.

For the record, I haven't played it in years, and I have never been very good at it.

... but after recently watching the "documentary," King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters, I kept thinking that these guys should design games!!!  they know the games so well and i'm wondering if some of the things they "discovered" while playing for hours, days, weeks, months, YEARS!!! are not always unknown "features" that the programmers never would have suspected, but that they were in many cases hard coded.  example per the movie / "elevtor level", the springs ... there are at least 2 of them, from what i can tell.  they look exactly the same, but they have a different path down the screen.  the come out in a looped pattern and therefore there are "safe places" for the player, but only for a moment before the other one comes by.

still, i'm curious about implementing such a game... one that has only 4 screens (100+ levels), but gets harder each time the player makes it to a new level.

any other insights or additions to this are very much welcome!

    peace & 42

ps - the reason i said "documentary" in quotes is that i did a little research after watching the movie and it is not as accurate a telling of history as they'd have us believe.  that said, i'd still recommend watching it.
